The Buffalo Rally happened at Mossel Bay on 18-21 March. Hundreds if not thousands of bikes of all shapes and sizes opted for the R62 Route to Mossel Bay via Ladismith and Oudtshoorn. It was a very busy weekend through all the small towns of the Klein Karoo. Beer, food, coffee and accommodation topped the demand side list for the weekend and all i n all, the Buffalo Rally keeps Karoo biking on the map. With the added exposure via the Buffalo Rally, Karoo places are more in demand adding to the ever growing popularity of biking in the Karoo.
On any normal weekend, the Karoo is a place to relax, a place to rest, a place to play and generally a place for all. Just ask all the bikers, runners, cyclists hikers and photographers on any given weekend. Biking in the Karoo has become extremely popular from Harley Clubs down to dirt bikes. The R62 is a popular route linking the Cape Winelands with the Klein Karoo and makes a pleasant round trip with the N2. As a link to the Garden Route, the R62 offers dryer inland vistas with small town hospitality which the Karoo has become famous for.
The N7 is the gateway to the famous Cedarberg Mountains, a playground for offroad bikers beyond Malmesbury. The dirt roads beyond the Cedarberg into Tankwa offer real extreme conditions for off road bikes and are the “real deal” when it comes to offroad biking in South Africa.
