It’s vast, it’s slow, and it often feels like nothing ever happens at all. You sense that time has forgotten to include the Karoo. It is stuck in a period decades or centuries old. It is fascinating to say the least, but above all, words written about the Karoo fail to convey the essence of this unique, distinctive region of South Africa. Being there is what does it ! Just feeling the timelessness, the vastness, the earthiness and sense of timeless destiny slowly takes root in your very soul. When there, out of the city and tuned into the essence of the Karoo, it’s mostly hard to understand what all the stress was about back there in the city. One thing is for sure, it’s hard and even seems wrong to use the word stress and Karoo in the same sentence. Writing more is therefore superfluous. Get there, feel it and enjoy the Karoo.
